Breakout #1 Joy Bowles, PhD

Inside Aromatherapy – How essential oils get into the body and what they do when they get there

Join Dr Joy for a day of fun and fascination building on Dr Joy’s key-note talk. The purpose of the workshop is to increase attendees’ understanding of how essential oils can be used safely to enhance physical and psychological well-being. When essential oils are applied to the body, what happens to them? Where do they go, and what do they do? What are some of the main ways they ‘work’ on the human body? We will also explore olfaction and mood, how our sense of smell works and learn a simple breathing technique using essential oils to help us manage psychological stress. Dr Joy facilitates the group in sharing personal essential oil stories, and attendees will gain more confidence with choosing oils and application methods using scientific evidence. Safety, toxicity, potential drug interactions and how scientific research contributes to safe practice will wrap up the day. This workshop was presented to great acclaim in New York and Washington DC in February 2018, and Dr Joy is delighted to be making the workshop available to the America-wide NAHA community.

Breakout #2 Madeleine Kerkhof

Fusion AromaTherapy™ In Motion

Fusion AromaTherapy™ is Madeleine Kerkhof’s integrated approach to clinical aromatherapy, using conventional essential oils and base oils or compounds, and CO2 extracts.
In this post conference workshop Madeleine will briefly remind us how extraction of aromatics is done and how CO2 extracts are made. She will explain some of the differences between conventional extraction and CO2 extraction which will help you to understand why she uses them for all aspects in aromatherapy, and more especially in the context of bringing body, mind and soul into motion.

In the workshop Fusion AromaTherapy™ In Motion Madeleine will take you on a fragrant journey into all aspects of movement and inspire you to choose those aromatics that can help relieve pain and inflammation of the musculoskeletal system such as rheumatic inflammations, fibromyalgia, muscle pains, restless legs, spasms, but also neuropathic pains. Being stuck in motion most often involves more than just the physical aspects of musculoskeletal complaints. Patients can have issues that block them from moving forward on an emotional and spiritual level as well.
Essential oils and the often exquisitely fragrant CO2 extracts can have profound benefits in the holistic approach to the treatment of pains and blockages of the musculoskeletal system.
Madeleine will share some of her best blends and examples of cases to inspire you even more to adopt more tools for patient wellbeing at its best
